Celebrate the 12th of October and show your national pride in Marbella

Marbella Council unveiled an array of events that will mark Hispanic Day in the city on October 12. These include community gatherings and multicultural festivals, as well as historical tributes. 

The programme, which aims to involve residents, covers a wide range of topics, from scientific talks and flag giveaways to street parades. It all aims to showcase Spain’s shared history with Latin America.

The free Spanish flags are being distributed from 8-11 October at various locations including the tourism offices of Plaza de los Naranjos (Plaza de los Naranjos), La Fontanilla (La Fontanilla), San Pedro Alcantara (San Pedro Alcantara), and district headquarters in Nueva Andalucia/Las Chapas. A second pickup point can be found at the Citizen Participation Office on Calle Jacinto Benavente 10 There are more than 500 flags available, which encourages locals to decorate balconies with a sense of pride. Over 120 flags will also be flown along the streets and in public areas throughout the week to make the city a sea red and yellow.

On October 12, the day’s main event begins at 10am, with a ceremony of flag-raising on the corner of Ashmawi and Glorieta Bulevar Prince Alfonso De Hohenlohe. The 75-square-metre city flag will be raised by local police and accompanied by the performance of the national anthem by the municipal orchestra.

The festivities continue with activities that honour the Virgin of Pilar, patron saint of the Guardia Civil. The Vazquez Clavel Neighbourhood Association, at 7p in the evening, will lead a procession of the Virgin of Pilar, leaving from the Church of the Incarnation, and winding its way through the historical centre to her Chapel on Calle Reino de Aragon. Watch out for roadblocks, and any changes.

The Foreign Residents delegation will be lighting up Parque de la Represa on October 12 to bring the Hispanic Day Festival to a festive end. The festival will feature a vibrant mix of performances, cuisine, and Latin American flavours, as well as evenings full of music, dancing, and transatlantic camaraderie.
