Benalmadena businesses whose operations are disrupted because of the urban renewal project along Avenida Retamar or Avenida Juan Luis Peralta and 11 streets around the Gamonal area can now start applying for compensation.
The grants are a first-time initiative to help offset the costs of routine operations during construction. They offer relief to bartenders, restaurants, and service providers in the affected areas.
Although not everyone will like them, some residents have complained about how slippery the new sidewalks are. In recognition of the impact on businesses at ground level, a new programme to cover daily expenses during the construction has been launched.
Applicants who operate in public establishments located on the first floor of these streets are eligible. Businesses must be registered and operating prior to the announcement of the grant and current with all local, state, and federal obligations. One application is allowed per business.
The application must be submitted online through the council’s portal between October 1 and October 31. It should include invoices, supporting documents and proof of eligible costs. Funding can reach up to €6,000 per affected business and may be used for essentials such as self-employment contributions, utilities like water and electricity, telecommunications, rent or mortgage payments, and insurance premiums.
As other council projects come to an end, additional application opportunities will be available in the months ahead. This will provide continued support for affected businesspeople. Local business owners have hailed the initiative as an essential lifeline in a difficult period of transformation and improvements.
