Police in Alicante arrested 13 people during a Halloween security operation that also led to 80 reports for drug possession or use and the carrying of weapons, according to the National Police.
The citywide deployment, mounted for the Halloween celebrations, saw officers identify more than 378 people and check 71 vehicles. The force said the operation was concentrated in the busiest parts of the city, including Postiguet beach, El Barrio, the Explanada de España, Rambla de Méndez Núñez and the city centre.
Arrests for a range of offences
The 13 arrests were made in connection with offences including theft with force, domestic violence, drug trafficking, immigration breaches, an outstanding judicial warrant, document forgery and resisting police officers.
Police also drew up 71 reports for possession or consumption of illegal drugs and nine reports for carrying dangerous bladed weapons.
The National Police said the operation was coordinated by Alicante provincial headquarters through CIMACC-091 and focused on preventing offences linked to crowded nightlife and festive gatherings.
Extra patrols in transport hubs and busy streets
The security plan relied mainly on public order and patrol units from the provincial police brigades, working alongside district officers from the north and central parts of the city. The national force’s transport unit was also brought in to reinforce checks at land transport stations as people arrived in or left the city.
Police said the aim was to reduce common crime and other offences at the points where large numbers of people were expected to gather for the holiday.
