NATIONAL Police in Malaga is awaiting toxicology test results on an alleged spiking of a foreigner and sexual assault.
On June 28th, a woman complained to police that a man had inappropriately touched her. The emergency protocols were triggered.
On the way to hospital she told paramedics this man had injected her with a substance that made her drowsy.
The medical staff examined her, and discovered a puncture on her shoulder which could have come from a needle.
The Family and Women’s Unit at Policia Nacional has yet to receive the results of blood and urine tests performed in hospital. This will help determine whether drugs are involved.
Spiking can be carried out by injecting drugs into the victims’ bodies with needles.
The phenomenon of ‘needle spiking’ grew in popularity in the UK before spreading to Spain, where more than one thousand reported incidents occurred in 2021.

The Costa del Sol is now a place where 70% of the victims are women and 30% men.
Police investigations found that despite the fact that most of the alleged victims claimed to have felt drowsy and had memory loss and a loss of coordination, there was no evidence supporting these claims. Test results were consistently negative.
There have been no confirmed reports of needle spiking either in the UK or Spain.
Even though there were no confirmed cases of drugging, this phenomenon led many clubs in Europe to implement more safety measures for potential victims.
Lisa said: “I believe bars should advertise themselves as spike-free bars, and consider safety as part of their marketing.”
Scientists have created cups, straws and even nail varnish that react to a drug-laced drink.

The bracelet has a protective layer that reacts in five seconds to the presence or absence of drugs.
The QR code can be scanned to access emergency information and educational resources about how to avoid drink-spiking.
In 2022, Spain launched its new government. Puntas Violetas in several provinces to combat gender-based violence including sexual assaults, with Málaga opening its 32nd Location in the network as of June 17.
