Two teenage girls found dead in a park in southern Spain ‘took their own lives after a campaign of bullying’

Friends of the two girls have expressed their grief over the deaths. They believe that the bullying they experienced at school led to the suicides.

Family members raised the alarm after finding the bodies of Rosmed, 16, and Sharif, 15, in Concordia Park.

According to pals, at least one of the girls – who both attended IES San Juan Bosco in Jaen – had been bullied at school.

“Rosmed was bullied at her former school [IES El Valle] “She was deeply affected and never recovered,” a friend told a Spanish newspaper El Pais.

The same friend who helped find the girls when they went missing claimed Sharif was also bullied by her peers.

The two girls died of suicide, according to the police, despite no signs of violence. They were both Spanish nationals with Colombian parents.

The authorities haven’t confirmed that the deaths were related to bullying. An investigation by the judicial system into this tragic incident is currently subject to a gag rule.

According to friends, it is possible that one of the classmates who took his life last year could have been responsible for these deaths.

According to Jaen Hoy, a young man – who was a classmate to at least one of the girls – shot himself with a shotgun in November last year.

The girls’ high school released a press release saying that today is a difficult day for the educational community at IES San Juan Bosco.

“We are aware that there is no comfort to be found at this time, particularly in the wake of such a tragic loss.”

Jaen City Council has declared three official days of mourning, which will run until Tuesday December 2.

The city has called for a moment of silence to be observed at noon on Monday.

In 2024, 76 youngsters aged between 15 and 19 years old took their own lives in Spain – a 20% increase compared with the previous year.

According to UNICEF’s recent report, 7.4% (or 12-20 year olds) of Spaniards are considered to be at high suicide risk.
