From July 15 to 19, the vibrant annual Feria de la Virgen Del Carmen will be held in Torremolinos’ coastal neighbourhood, La Carihuela.
The Hermandad de Marineros Virgen del Carihuela de La Carihuela organized the event this year, which featured new attractions such as dazzling festive lights and a lively parade with a Brass Band and stilt-walkers.
The Hermandad de Marineros is holding a floral offer to the Virgen del Carmn on Tuesday, July 15 at 8pm. The procession starts at Plaza Chiriva, winding through Calle Los Perros, the Paseo Marítimo, Plaza del Remo, Calle Bulto, and Calle Carmen, concluding at the Parroquia Ntra. Sra. del Carmen. A traditional tribute to Our Lady of Carmen, followed by her enthronement on the procession throne, will be held at midnight. At 10pm, the fairground rides at Plaza del Remo will open.
Wednesday, July 16 is the day of the celebrations, which begins with a 11am Mass at the church. At 5:45pm, sailors will gather for a traditional parade through Calles Chiriva, San Ginés, and Carmen.
The grand procession of the Virgen del Carmen begins at 7pm from the church, travelling through Calles Carmen, San Ginés, Chiriva, Carihuela, Los Perros, Huerta del Rincón, and the Paseo Marítimo to Rincón del Sol. The procession is accompanied by the Humilladero Music Band and Redemption Cornets and Drums Band of Arroyo de la Miel. It culminates at 9:00pm with the Mariners’ Mass and the sacramental embarkation of Virgin Mary to bless the waters and those who sail in Torremolinos. It is not to be forgotten the moment when hundreds of sailors dressed in uniforms carry the statue out into the sea.
The procession then continues along the Paseo Marítimo, Plaza del Remo, Calle Bulto, and Calle Carmen, returning to the Parroquia Ntra. Sra. del Carmen.
The Feria Virgen del Carmen, a vibrant celebration of faith, community and La Carihuela’s rich maritime history, is a unique experience for everyone.
