The Policia Nacional reported that they received 513 reports of verbal or physical assaults on health workers last year, up 26.35% from the total for 2024.
More than 39% of all cases involved violence against staff.
The Policia Nacional Chief Commissioner, Manuel Yanguas Menendez, said that the complaints are ‘nothing’ compared to the 20,000 incidents that happen annually.

He said, “We have problems and they have problems: They are being abused and they do not report it.”
There are two types: those who have been attacked and those who will be attacked. Yanguas Menendez added.
Of the reported incidents (179), the majority involved attacks on public officers, followed by threats (163) and injuries (110).
Intimidation is the most common form of aggression (122), followed closely by physical violence (112) and psychological violence (48)
Andalucia, in Sevilla and Malaga provinces, reported the most cases.
The figures from the Policia Nacional show that the month of June is the one in which most complaints are filed.
The highest concentration of aggressions occurred between 11pm and 12am on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The most frequent complaints were filed by doctors, followed closely by nurses.
Manuel Yanguas Menendez stated that although the number 2025 complaints represents a significant growth compared to 2024 that does not mean an increase in incidents.
He said there was a greater awareness on the part of the health community of the importance of reporting aggression and taking a ‘zero tolerance’ stance towards any type of violence exercised by people towards medical workers.
In Spain, over 12,000 health workers received training in how to diffuse incidents last year.
