AENA, the Spanish airport network, has approved a 6.5% increase in airport fees, raising the maximum charge to €11.03 per passenger from 2026.
The company is owned by the Spanish government and manages 46 airports throughout Spain. It is also the largest airport operator in the world.
In the first half of 2025, Aena reported profits of over €893.8 million and 150.6 million passengers passed through their Spanish hubs.
Aena states that the fee adjustments are in line with inflation, increased operating costs and will ensure continued investment in airport infrastructure improvements.
The company will use the increase in price to partially fund its expansion plans for airports in Madrid, Barcelona and other cities in Europe and America.
Aena’s commercial revenue grew 16.3% by early 2025. This was driven by growth in restaurants, shops, parking and other non-flight service.
The increased airline fees will cover a part of the losses from compensation payments for delayed flights in 2024.
The company charges its Spanish hub and 18 other international hubs for the use of its facilities such as runways. terminals and security.
