SPAIN is set to roll out a new nationwide public transport pass offering unlimited travel for just €60 a month.
The pass, which will be launched in January 2026 and allow free travel on all state-run transportation services, such as short- and mid-distance trains, intercity coaches, and buses, is expected to launch by then.
The plan was unveiled by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday. According to the government, it will benefit two million people. It is also expected to reduce commuting expenses up 60%.

“This is a very strong commitment to sustainable mobility and also to the middle and working classes,” Sánchez said.
Young people stand to gain even more, with under-26s paying just €30 a month thanks to an additional 50% discount.
Not all services can be included in the scheme at first. The scheme will not include the metros, city busses and trams that are operated by local and regional councils.
In the first phase, high-speed rail services are excluded, even though they are operated by Renfe (the state-owned company).
Sanchez, however, has called for regional authorities to opt-in and said that the goal is “to make public transportation easier throughout the country”.

The new Spanish Pass is based on the popular German pass Deutschlandticket, which costs €63 a month – although the German version also covers city undergrounds and trams.
The Prime Minister has also confirmed that discounts for public transport will be extended into the next year. This means commuters can enjoy even more relief.
Currently, the price of monthly intercity and urban passes, and 10-journey tickets is reduced by 40%. This reduction is split equally between funding from state and contributions from local or regional authorities.
In Madrid, this means a monthly pass currently costs €66.30, covering the entire region’s transport network, including metros, trams, buses and commuter trains.
For longer journeys there are additional discounts. 40% off medium distance trains, 50% off high-speed medium-distance services and 50% off state buses.
Discounts for youth can reach 70%
