On Tuesday 21 October, the National Police launched a massive operation against drug trafficking in Ceuta, Malaga and Cadiz. Sources say that seven arrests may have been made in the early morning and there could be more throughout the day. However, no additional information is available.
Ceuta is the location of this extensive operation, which saw at least eleven searches carried out in private homes. Diverse police units participated in this massive operation.
Seven arrested
The operation is a part of an ongoing investigation to dismantle a criminal group linked to drug trafficking and other illegal organised crime activities.
Government delegate in Andalucía, Pedro Fernández, highlighted the importance of the operation within the wider scope of the war on drugs in six of the eight Andalusian provinces, which has showed “very good results” so far.
He stated that “we are talking about over 36,000 operations. We have arrested more than 26,000. We have seized more than 2000 tonnes of drugs. There were more than 300 drug-trafficking ships.”
According to the delegate’s statement, this investigation led to an increase in the number of criminals brought to justice, resulting in a decline in the drug-trafficking. Fernández stated that such operations also contribute to Andalucía’s reputation as a relatively “safe region”.
