Mijas’ celebration of September has an even wider goal. The tourism department is trying to increase the number of visitors during non-peak summer months.

Jerez’s council said it will continue to promote golf, sport tourism, gastronomy, and the municipality’s inland areas to encourage people to visit the city during the quieter months.

Winter visitors also contribute to the local economy, as they tend stay longer and seek out different experiences than those who travel during the summer peak.

Mijas has held its Tourist Day for years, with last year’s event also featuring flamenco and free paella in Plaza Virgen de la Peña. The council reported that the paella had been eaten in less than an hour by 2025. This shows the popularity of this event.
