You may have noticed that there are more construction works in Mijas’s different neighborhoods. This is for a good cause. The parking capacity in the entire municipal area will increase dramatically as a multiyear programme to repair streets and public spaces gets underway.
New car parks are closer to becoming reality
Two brand new car parks, which will have more than 650 parking spaces between them, were just awarded design contracts. Plans for the site beside the school Indira Gandhi in Las Lagunas, expected to hold around 250 spaces, have gone for €13,000 with very fast a 60-day deadline. The council will be able to tender for the actual construction work once the drawings are received.
Barrio Santana, in Mijas Pueblo, will receive approximately 424 parking spaces. A joint venture of Ingeniería Atecsur SL and Roma Ingenieros will produce that project for €72,000 inside just 120 days.
Four more schemes are already on the table: Las Cañadas (280 spaces), Don Elias (433), La Vega (480) and the boulevard at La Cala (580). Those four alone exceed 1,800 spaces. The total number of spaces increases to 2,450 when you add the Indira-Gandhi and Santana sites. The construction of the Mijas Pueblo parking lot, which has already been approved, will be put out to tender by the end of this year. This car park will provide more than 600 additional spaces.
Public spaces receive long-term care package
A contract worth about €5.7 million The maintenance of all streets, squares, pavements, medians, fountains, and coastal pathways will continue until 2030. The construction contracts run until 31 December 2020 and can be further extended by an additional two years.
The work covered includes everything from the maintenance and repair of pavements to urban barriers removal, safety improvements, and the complete maintenance of coastal paths. Immediate attention must be given to urgent faults, such as potholes and damaged signs. Priority jobs begin within three workingdays and ordinary tasks in five.
Taken together the parking programme The conservation contract explains the activity that is now visible in the streets and open areas from Las Lagunas, Mijas Pueblo, and La Cala.
It’s starting to show that we are less than one year from the local elections.
