Benalmadena residents get free cable car rides until 2027, what to know before you book

Benalmadena residents can enjoy free cable car rides up to 2027. What you need to know before booking

Following a newly renewed agreement, local residents will be able to ride the iconic Benalmadena cables car free of charge on the last Saturday of each month. The agreement runs until February 2027. You can enjoy a monthly getaway by reaching the top of Monte Calamorro free of charge, as long as you follow the Town Hall booking rules.

Why local leaders support the renewal

Local leaders believe the program will strengthen residents’ ties with Monte Calamorro while encouraging families to rediscover their local nature. Mayor Juan Antonio Lara calls the agreement one that puts “neighbours at the heart of local actions”. Presi Aguilera describes residents as “the best ambassadors” of the town’s natural resources. The Town Hall officials said that the ongoing partnership between Leisure Parks and the town promotes responsible travel, while giving back to the local community.

Enjoy sunset rides and late nights this summer

In July and August, the operating hours are extended from 10am until 11pm. This allows for more flexibility in planning sunsets and evening activities. After 7pm, those attending the popular “Magical Nights stargazing sessions” will only be required to pay a small nocturnal fee.

Calamorro, the famed route

Benalmadena Cable Car, launched on 3 March 2000 covers a 2,646 metre route ascending 636 metres between Arroyo de la Miel and Monte Calamorro. Cabins can carry up to four passengers. The journey takes 15 minutes and travels at a speed of five metres per second. Residents have enjoyed the breathtaking views of the Costa del Sol for generations.

Small print: How to claim your seat for free

Innoben is the company that verifies local residency. To gain access to the site, a promotional email code must be requested.
Applications are open from the 14th to the last Wednesday of the month. Locals have a very limited amount of time to submit their request.
The daily limit is 500 codes per day to control the capacity. Each code provides a round-trip free ticket, redeemable at the cable car official website. You can add discounted options, such as a set-menu at La Cima, during the digital checkout process.

The free monthly access eliminates the cost barrier for local households and makes outdoor activities available year-round.
Registering residents can enjoy a weekend with a reduced cost by combining free ascent tickets and discounted dining packages.
