Mijas Grand Park launches major pickleball competition

Final tests and safety trials are being conducted to prepare for the grand opening of Gran Parque de Mijas. This park, which will be Andalusia’s largest urban area at 270,000 square meters, has been eagerly anticipated. 

The tests were carried out during the fifth stage of the 2025 Pickle Pro Tour. A professional pickleball event, the tournament attracted 146 participants, according to the Mijas Town Council.

The Royal Spanish Tennis Federation recognizes the Pickle Pro Tour Malaga and Barcelona were among the cities visited previously. The Mijas event kicked off on November 6–7 at the Lew Hoad Tennis and Padel Club, hosting group-stage matches for the Pro category and all Talent category games. The semifinals and finals then moved to the Gran Parque de Mijas on the weekend of November 8–9, with matches played on regulation courts set up in the park’s amphitheater area.

The only entrance that is open during weekends is the main one, while the rest of the building is reserved for the sports zone. The council stressed The planned capacity-testing protocol requires that the public be excluded from other areas of this park.

These trials were held after the recent awarding three contracts essential for maintenance, gardening and security. This cleared the way for full park operation.

International Pickleball Showdown

It is important to note that the word “you” means “you”. tournament featured three age categories: over 18 (with participants as young as 12–13 eligible without cash prizes and full eligibility from age 14), over 50, and over 60. Men’s and woman’s singles as well as mixed doubles were all part of the competition.

The competition included 146 players, 126 of whom were Spanish. Participants from around the world include Slovakia, Italy, Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan), Lithuania, Morocco and the Netherlands.

The event served not only as a high level sporting spectacle, but as the last real-world stress-test for one Andalusia’s ambitious public infrastructure project ahead of its grand-opening on a fixed-date that is still under wraps.
