Mijas confirms September opening for new 272-space Los Santos car park

The new underground parking facility in Los Santos is now open for business. Mijas Town Hall has confirmed that the facility, which was long awaited, has been completed and will soon enter its final phase of testing.

Final technical tests underway

The Mayor Ana Mata, along with the Infrastructure Councillor Juan Jose Torres, visited the site on Thursday, 16th July to inspect the development before it opened to the general public. Construction has now finished following an investment of €15.7 million. In the next few weeks, engineers are going to perform final inspections on ventilation, air-conditioning, lifts and access barriers, as well as fire protection systems. The council will also be finalizing the electricity contract before the official handover.

There are now 272 additional spaces.

The internal layout has been revised to increase the capacity of the car park from 234 to 272 spaces without reducing any parking bays. From the total, 200 spaces have already been allocated to local residents through a monthly subscription scheme costing €50, following a public draw held earlier this year. The 72 remaining spaces will be used as public short-stay parking. Tickets are available via a standard ticketing scheme, which should ease parking problems in the area.

Parking in Las Lagunas is being improved

The four-storey underground complex is located beneath Plaza La Cala and Plaza Mijas. It’s connected to Calle San Matias. Calle San Jorge is the vehicle access, while Plaza Mijas is the exit. Two pedestrian entryways equipped with elevators and stairways provide step-free accessibility throughout the development.

Ana Mata, who was present at the event, stated that the new infrastructure is expected to improve parking in an area which has had longstanding parking problems. Councillor Juan Jose Torres stated that the month of August and July will be dedicated for the completion of the remaining technical testing and corrections to any defects. The scheduled opening is set for September.
