Marbella reinvented: Costa del Sol City heading for image change

Marbella has been a magnet for millionaires for many years, but it is now looking to expand its appeal. Years of success for the Costa del Sol are based on year-round pleasant weather, strong privacy policies and upscale housing options. Leaders of the city want to go further and make it Europe’s Silicon Valley.

Startups seem to prefer the Costa del Sol over other locations. Luxury developments are situated near coworking and office spaces. Property agents are reporting a noticeable shift in the number of wealthy retirees. Talent from a variety of countries and age groups are investing more in the destination.

Reflections of the Business Centre head on talent attraction

Christian Rasmussen is the CEO of The Pool, a business centre in Copenhagen. He says that instead of attracting retirees, they are bringing in young talent. There are few places in the world with such high levels of talent. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. In a recent Bloomberg interview, he said. He explained that “Marbella will look very different in the future from what it is today.” He told Bloomberg that “efforts are now focused on changing views of Marbella and moving it away from a destination for leisure to a base for professionals in the 21st century.”

The goal of property developers is to provide a stable European base for international investors and founders. The location is a combination of all the sunshine and luxury you could ask for, similar to the United Arab Emirates.

Investors in international property are getting younger

Pandemic Years brought noticeable changes in buyer behavior. Pure Living Properties’ The Marbella 2025 market report Younger buyers are more interested in full-year working and living arrangements. The British, Scandinavians, Germans and Dutch remain the most prominent buyers, but demand from United States, Canada and Gulf nations is also growing.

Artur Loginov, chief executive at estate agency DrumeliaThere was a clear improvement. “New residents and investors, as well as hotels, arrived in Marbella following the pandemic. This has raised standards for the area. “What was once a small town is now a city,” said he. “Recent years have brought new gyms, hotels, restaurants and global brands outlets to the same level as New York or Monaco.”

Marbella council on board

This new direction will be supported by initiatives from the local government. The Pool and Marbella Council are working together to encourage foreign investment. Marbella is being promoted as an entry to Europe through the mayor’s visits to China, the US and other countries. Infrastructure improvements include modern amenities and expanded international schools for families.
