Marbella’s celebration of Europe Day took place on May 9th, with an institutional thank-you at the Hospital Real de la Misericordia. Local entrepreneurs were honored for their contributions to Marbella’s economic and social growth.
Remedios Bocanegra praised the European associations at the ceremony for promoting coexistence and mutual respect, underlining Marbella’s multicultural identity.
The Schuman Declaration was made 75 years ago on May 9, 50, and laid the foundations of the European Union. The speakers commented on how the EU has been able to drive economic growth, create jobs, promote democratic values and protect human rights while also tackling global challenges.
Alberto Benito praised the idea of an united Europe and called Marbella as a model for peaceful coexistence between over 170 different nationalities. He encouraged continued efforts to keep peace. The event concluded with awards to some of the best local businesses and organisations, including Anytech365 (CEO Janus Rægaard), Savia Organic Salon (co-director Alina Asipian), Forum Marbella (Pedro de la Lastra), The Pool (co-founder Douglas Goullet), La Sala Group (president Ian Radford), and The Choir Andaluz (director Steve Marks), who performed the European Anthem, closing the ceremony on a harmonious note.
