Marbella’s new urban plan (PGOM) is due to be approved in June. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, says it will mark a major step forward for the town’s future, allowing quicker development and opening the door for large-scale projects.
The plan, once approved by the local council, will be sent to the Junta de Andalucia (Junta de Andalucia) for final approval. If everything goes according to plan, the plan will be implemented before 2025.
The plan contains 65 sector reports that have all received positive feedback. The plan is the result of months of consultations with local groups and public meetings. Marbella’s planning should be flexible, efficient and conform to environmental and legal standards.
The new PGOM has been backed up by the regional law LISTA which speeds up the process, and separates local development from long-term planning.
The mayor announced another project that will provide temporary housing to young people and seasonal employees. The municipality plans to provide free land while private developers build rental homes at low cost. San Pedro, Nueva Andalucia Las Chapas, central Marbella and Nueva Andalucia could be possible locations.
This plan is expected to make significant changes. The plan will provide more land for housing and services. Investors will have clarity and Marbella can continue to grow as a leading destination for residents and business.
