A wildfire broke out near the nudist beaches in El Chaparral in Mijas. This is the sixth fire in Malaga in the last two days.
Firefighters worked all night to put out a fire that was reported near the Mijas Golf area. Infoca’s firefighting service declared that the fire was stabilized at 1.30am. It had been fully contained by 7:25am on July 13, 2013. The final efforts to contain the fire will be carried out by a team of forest firefighters and an environmental agent.
In Benalmadena a fire broke out on Saturday, July 12, on Maestro Trujillo Avenue, north of Tivoli. Ex-workers, who are still on call to monitor the park, notified emergency services. The fire was the second to occur at the site in two weeks.
Malaga firefighting teams have faced a difficult weekend with winds up to 50-60 km/hr fuelling wildfires throughout the province. The first fire erupted on Friday at 7.40pm in El Paraíso, Villanueva de la Concepción, requiring ten aerial units and ground crews. It was out of control by 9pm, despite fierce winds. Another fire in Álora’s El Aljibe area, reported at 10.15pm Friday, was tackled by three firefighting groups and extinguished shortly after. In Casares, a fire at the Costa del Sol Environmental Complex was reported by Mayor Juan Luis Villalón on social media. Two Super Puma helicopters and a light plane, along with multiple ground units, were able to contain a fire in Moclinejo’s Los Bellacos neighborhood, which was declared at 12:15pm on Saturday.
Firefighting teams are working hard to protect Malaga from wildfires. But the real problem is when resources are stretched thin as they were in Mijas 2022.
