Storm Jana, which is currently rolling into Spain, will continue the wet and windy conditions that have been prevalent in much of the country.
On Friday, the weather system is expected to arrive and bring rain and strong winds to large areas of Iberia.
According to El Tiempo, Jana is a ‘deep storm’ that will bring ‘new rains and a drop in the snow level’.
In a recent report, the forecaster said: “The storm will develop in the early morning hours of Friday. It will intensify very quickly.”
The warning comes at a time when dozens of weather advisories remain in effect today, including for rain and wind on the Costa del Sol.
Rain showers will be strong on Friday in the eastern part of the country.
El Tiempo continues: “The storm’s first cold front will arrive in the afternoon, when it reaches the western part of the peninsula and penetrates through Portugal.
It will be followed by heavy rains in the western Andalucia region and Extremadura.
“In the east of the country, showers are expected to form without ruling out storms. This will lead to significant rain accumulations.”
On Saturday, another cold front will move in from the West, covering the entire country with more rain. The same will happen on Sunday.
Forecasters add: “The total rainfall during the weekend could be over 50mm in many parts of the Atlantic slope.” This figure may even exceed 150mm in some areas.
In many places, the storm could bring gusts of strong wind that can exceed 70 km/h. Locally, these gusts are more likely to exceed 100 km/h.
A drop in temperatures will cause snow to fall at 1,000m above sea-level in the inland and northern parts of the country.
