European police collaboration breaks up luxury watch theft gang at Costa del Sol

Spanish National Police Europol and Italian Police joined forces to disrupt a sophisticated criminal organization responsible for violent luxury-watch robberies. Officers carried out the operation in Naples and 12 people were arrested during raids on Friday, 15 May. The suspects are all members of notorious Neapolitan “Paranzas“, which has been targeting high-end targets in popular Spanish destinations.

Criminals focus on resort areas

The perpetrators chose locations like Marbella Malaga Barcelona Ibiza Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza for their crimes. They used fake documents, imported vehicles or rented cars to make quick getaways. Teams of three to five people with defined roles conducted surveillance on wealthy tourists at hotels, restaurants, beach resorts, and shopping districts.

Quick grabs followed by quick setaways

Robbers ripped watches off victims’ wrists with force and speed, before fleeing the scene on motorbikes or scooters. Stolen watches were then sold through established international channels outside of Spain. This systematic approach allowed the gangs strike effectively in crowded tourist areas frequented mainly by wealthy visitors.

Investigations span borders

Officers obtained European arrest warrants for the Naples captures from different Spanish judicial bodies. Authorities have recorded 31 arrests in connection with this investigation across multiple European nations. According to police statements, the rising value of luxury watches has led to an increase in such crimes across Europe.
