CSN News reports that a shampoo has been pulled off the shelves because it contains an ingredient banned in Europe.

Aemps has ordered the recall of Color Vivo, also known as Biopoint, because it contained butylphenylmethylpropional. Biopoint SRL in Milan is the company responsible for the launch of the product.

According to the European Commission Regulation 2021/1902, this substance is banned from cosmetics in the European Union as of 1 March 2022. This organic chemical compound belongs to the aromatic aldehyde group. It has a floral smell that is reminiscent of cyclamen and lily-of-the valley.

Lilial now belongs to the CMR substance group. This includes substances that are classified as carcinogenic (cancer-causing), mutagenic (cancer-causing) or toxic for reproductive purposes. It is recommended that no cosmetic product contains Lilial. This includes creams and lotions for children, pregnant women, or anyone who uses it on a daily basis.

The batch number for the recalled product is Ref. The Medicines Agency has ordered a recall of all products distributed matching this batch. Aemps also advised that those who have this shampoo at home should “stop using immediately.”


The batch affected is Ref. EV00919, with reference number PS/CBV 0067/202.
