Costa del Sol campaign equips locals with CPR and defibrillator skills in debut session

Costa del Sol Campaign equips locals in first session with CPR and defibrillator abilities

Gerry Hannam of Save A Life provided details about the group’s first CPR and Defibrillator Training Course, which was held on Saturday, April 18th. Nic and Alex of Diving with Nic guided eleven participants to gain hands-on experience. Daniela Wenk, the organizer of this important community event in Calahonda, received many warm thank yous.

Save A Life is a result of personal trauma

Gerry Hannam, a survivor of cardiac arrest in the UK, and his wife Jenny started the campaign last year after Gerry’s survival was due to a defibrillator located in a public place. Save A Life installed ten defibrillators in Mijas and Fuengirola, as well as Alhaurin el Grande. Four units are now located within Calahonda. The extra defibrillators are marked with green heart stickers and placed in the patrol cars of security services. Public maps also help to locate the equipment. A unit was recently placed at a local elementary school in memory Milas. Milas’ family, along with the Hannams’ daughter Charlotte and the Hannams themselves, attended the inauguration.

Everyone can prepare for emergencies with affordable courses

Participants learned basic techniques including the anatomy of cardiac arrhythmia, recognition of symptoms and correct use of automated defibrillators. Nic and Alex emphasized the importance of keeping patient alive until professional help arrives. They drew on real-life examples where quick actions succeeded. Courses run for four hours and cost just €35 per person, half the normal rate,  thanks to sponsorship from Diving with Nic. Finca Naundrup provided complimentary drinks and snacks to create a welcoming atmosphere.
