ALICANTE ELCHE INFO BOARD

Work is taking place during the night throughout March on a new taxiway costing over €16.7 million.

The project will optimise operations by reducing the amount of time that aircraft spend on the ground before and after taking off and landing. It will also create more slots for airlines, which can boost their schedules.

There are plans to renovate the old Civil Aviation Building and take over the terminal to create a facility that is dedicated to travellers who don’t travel within the Schengen Area, such as those travelling to or from the UK.

The work is budgeted to take place between 2027 and 2031 at a cost of €453 million.

The project is designed to handle up to 26,000,000 passengers per annum. In fact, last year’s record was just 20,000,000 travellers.
