Marbella gets ready to welcome Santa Claus.

Marbella Town Hall activated a cleaning operation in order to maintain the city’s pristine condition through the Christmas period, as it prepares itself for the significant increase of visitors and events.

This initiative involves over 200 municipal employees and aims to handle the expected increase in footfall during the holiday season.

Pristine for peak festive days

Councillor Diego López highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive city image, stating that “the rise in events and the high number of residents and visitors makes it essential to reinforce our cleaning services.”

On peak days—8th, 24th, 25th, 31st December and 1st January—between 80 to 100 operatives will be on duty daily, supported by five street sweepers and three to four water-spraying lorries. The teas will prioritise areas where there is heavy traffic and festive activities, to ensure the streets are clean and welcoming.

Support from the Sustainability teams

The Sustainability Unit will also be able to provide immediate support for cleaning, as it has 105 members of staff.

Parks and Gardens will be focusing on green areas, contributing to an overall approach to city maintenance over the holidays.

Christmas Market Measures

There will also be specific measures around the Christmas Market. These include additional waste bins, and regular deep-cleaning after events. Avenida del mar will be cleaned twice daily and washed 3 times per week.

Call for Cooperation

Councillor López appealed to the public to make proper use of bins and recycling containers, emphasising that “citizens’ cooperation is vital to enjoying a clean, cared-for, and respectful festive environment.”

Marbella’s goal is to provide a welcoming, hygienic and clean city centre during the festive season. This will enhance the holiday experience of both tourists and residents.
