Age Concern, an international charity, has advised BRITS living in Spain to check their TIE card.
The UK government has advised UK citizens to surrender their green residency certificates in 2020. These documents have been used for many years as proof that they are entitled to live and work legally in Spain.
The certificates were replaced by plastic ID cards called TIEs (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero).
Age Concern stated in a release that “in July 2020, Spain will begin issuing TIE Cards to UK citizens who are already in Spain and covered by the Withdrawal Agreement.”
“Those without the right to permanent residence were given a valid card for five years.
The first batch of cards is now due for renewal. Check your TIE’s expiry date NOW!
You can mark the calendar to remind you of the dates that you can renew your membership: up to 90-days after the expiration date.
The charity has produced a video explaining how to renew a card (above).
