Emergency services responds to pool poisoning

Emergency paramedics descended on the luxurious Costa del Sol after holidaymakers reported severe nausea, dizziness and breathing difficulties. Emergency crews from Mobile 061 treated four victims, including two children, directly on the scene. Meanwhile, Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella provided urgent medical evaluation for approximately 60 affected guests.

A mechanical failure can cause toxic gas emissions

Officials from the Delegacion Territorial de Salud y Consumo de la Junta de Andalucia have confirmed that a mechanical malfunction was the cause of the accident. A trip on the main circuitbreaker led to the automatic chlorination and pH regulation system of the swimming pool collapsing. The chemical feed line continued to pump and released toxic fumes in the swimming area. Holidaymakers were unaware of the dangers and inhaled dangerous chemicals as they swam.

Safety inspections to begin following closure

On Monday morning, local health inspectors sealed off the swimming pool at the hotel as part of mandatory maintenance protocols. Experts in environmental testing are still on site to examine the technical equipment and determine why automated safety cutoffs did not prevent system malfunction.
