An 18-year-old was detained in Tarragona after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on a stolen motorcycle, then abandoning the bike and running away on foot, according to Mossos d’Esquadra.
The incident happened on Friday morning during a control on the T-11, where Mossos officers, with support from Tarragona’s Guardia Urbana, tried to stop the rider. Police said he ignored their instructions and sped off.
According to the force, the pursuit continued into the city, where the young man left the motorcycle behind before trying to escape on foot. He was intercepted shortly afterwards.
Mossos said the motorcycle had been stolen days earlier in Torredembarra. The rider was also alleged to have driven without a licence.
Police say pedestrians and drivers were put at risk
In a statement posted on social media, Mossos said the man’s driving had put pedestrians and other motorists in grave danger. Officers also accused him of driving recklessly through urban streets during the chase.
The case is now being treated as a string of offences, including vehicle theft, unlicensed driving, dangerous driving and resisting police. No injuries were reported.
The operation involved a traffic patrol and a later intervention by a plainclothes Mossos unit, with the Guardia Urbana assisting once the suspect entered the city.
The arrest came after a brief but high-risk pursuit in a busy part of the city. Police have not said whether the suspect had any prior record.
