Quiet street scene in Turre after ambulance attack

Two British brothers arrested after attack on medics in Turre

Two British brothers have been arrested in Turre, Almería, after an ambulance crew sent to treat their father was allegedly attacked and forced to flee the property, before Guardia Civil officers were also assaulted during the arrest.

The pair were later released provisionally by a judge in Vera on Thursday and must appear in court on the first day of every month, according to judicial sources.

Ambulance crew fled the scene

The incident began at around 10.35pm on Tuesday, 27 October, when Guardia Civil control room staff received a report of an attack on healthcare workers at a home in Calle El Mirador, in the La Casa Alta area of Turre.

An ambulance had gone to the address to treat a man who needed medical assistance, but the situation reportedly turned violent when his two sons, both British nationals, confronted the team. The doctor, nurse and driver were forced to run from the house and leave the ambulance behind after the aggression escalated.

When officers first reached the property, the medics explained what had happened and said the patient could not be moved for medical reasons. A second ambulance was then sent so the man could receive treatment.

More officers were needed

The confrontation did not end there. When officers went to the brothers’ home to establish what had taken place, only one came out at first. He began shouting, then allegedly lunged at the officers and tried to strike them with his fists.

Guardia Civil officers tried to restrain him, but all three fell backwards during the struggle. The man kept resisting on the ground, and one officer used official pepper spray to repel the assault when the second brother appeared and moved aggressively towards two officers who were turned away from him.

Reinforcements were then sent from the Garrucha and Sorbas posts. The first detained man reportedly continued to resist violently while being placed in a custody vehicle, trying to headbutt and bite officers, before kicking and striking the vehicle itself.

The second brother was later brought out of the house, but he also allegedly behaved aggressively, shouting and flailing his arms before charging at an officer. He was eventually pinned to the ground, handcuffed and taken away in an official vehicle.

According to judicial sources, the case involves six alleged offences of assault on the authority: three linked to the healthcare workers and three to Guardia Civil officers.

Both men were taken to Vera for judicial proceedings and later released provisionally pending the investigation.
