This weekend, the northern regions of Spain will be preparing themselves for severe weather. First summer storms 2026 are expected to arrive from the east. In the north, there are yellow and orange alerts, but in the south and east, it is still warm and dry, perfect for beach plans. Those travelling this weekend might need to travel through the affected areas when traveling between regions.

North America is covered by Friday storm alerts

Yellow alerts of extreme storms cover the entire north, from Galicia and the western areas to Aragon as well as the interior parts of Catalonia. Localised flooding is the most significant risk during the day. Meanwhile, temperatures are due to climb as high as 38ºC in southern parts of Aragon and the Basque Country, where an orange alert covers risks of storms with heavy hail. Under these conditions, drivers may have difficulty crossing the country as strong winds and hail develop.

The Saturday warnings are extended south of the Pyrenees

A yellow alert continues on Saturday Be prepared for hail, storms and flash floods south of the Pyrenees. The advice is to avoid mountain roads, and use motorways for safer travel. North of Mallorca, the island will see the first summer storms 2026 pounding the area. These storms are expected to last through the weekend bringing unrest to some parts of the Island.

The heatwave is over and the rain has spread.

Rain sets to cover the northern half of the country throughout the weekend. As the month of June draws to a close, temperatures will return to more moderate levels in southern areas. Southern and southeastern areas are expected to remain warm and dry, while no major changes will be expected.

Warmth on the Spanish coasts, especially in the south and east

South and southeastern coasts are predicted will offer a more comfortable 30ºC throughout during each day of the weekend. Inland areas such as Granada or Cordoba can expect temperatures to be five degrees higher than normal. The Alicante province sees the highest coastal readings, at around 35ºC. Nighttime temperatures hold above 22°C in all locations, with clear skies dominating.

Take these steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable weekend getaway

If you are planning a trip this weekend, it is advisable to check your route in advance. Also, allow extra time in case of delays due to weather conditions in the north. Official sources are the best way to keep up-to-date on conditions in northern and southern areas.

While the weather in the north is unsettling, the south and east coasts of Spain, as well as the coasts of Mallorca, are largely sunny and warm. Next week it will be different again.
