David Silva and Fernando Sanz, former world-class footballers including Frank de Boer are among those who will be heading to Marbella in the latest round of World Padel Soccer tournament.
Over 30 former footballers from different countries will be taking part in this event. It will take place at Club de Padel Los Granados from Monday 1st June until Wednesday 3rd June. The fifth consecutive year, the Marbella Town Hall is supporting the competition.
The competition is growing every year, attracting well-known footballers and bringing international attention to Marbella. Former Spain nationals Fernando Llorente Javi Martnez, Ruben De la Red, and Albert Luque, are among the stars who will grab their rackets and take part.
Marbella expects major tourism boost
Marbella mayor Angeles Munoz, during the official presentation of the tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella hailed the tournament as a link between sport tourism. Town Hall estimates place the economic impact at more than €2 million for the local area.
Jose Bernal, a professional padel athlete from Marbella who founded the event, revealed that the demand for Padel is increasing as it continues to grow around the world. Fernando Sanz revealed that the organisers are now receiving more requests from players to play on the courts than they have available.
On June 1, a pro-am competition featuring professional padel players, footballers and sponsors will be held. The group stage matches will be played on June 2, followed by the finals, and the closing gala.
Supported a great charity cause
The event this year will also support a charitable campaign in aid of Daniela, an unfortunate young girl who suffers from a rare medical condition called multisystemic muscle dysfunction syndrome. The tournament’s fundraising activities will support treatment efforts as well as increase awareness about the disease.
World Padel Soccer has grown tremendously since it was launched in Marbella 2022. In previous years, football legends and celebrities have attended the event.
