Costa Blanca ex-pat prepares for his fourth consecutive win of the Paris-Roubaix cycling race

Mathieu van der Poel is the Dutch cycling legend who has just released a short film that gives fans a glimpse behind the scenes. This comes days before he makes his historic attempt to win Paris Roubaix.

Mathieu Van der Poel purchased a luxury vacation house in Moraira in 2021, a town located on the Costa Blanca.

The weather in the United States is much better than Belgium for training.

Van der Poel aims to be the first cyclist in history to win Paris-Roubaix four times consecutively. It is one of the most difficult and prestigious races of cycling.

The documentary titled This is home Van der Poel is looking to do something more than just watch elite racing. 

I’m happy with the outcome. “It gives an honest perspective without complicating things too much, which is very important to me,” said he.

The documentary was filmed on Van der Poel’s training grounds in Antwerp and Moraira. It follows him relaxing and riding quiet roads with Roxanne Bertels.

Van der Poel’s cycling pedigree runs deep. 

He is the grandson and son of French legend Raymond Poulidor, as well as former world champion Adri Van der Poel. He has made his own way despite the weight of this legacy.

He is a rider of great significance. His cyclocross victories are legendary, and his Monument wins, such as Paris-Roubaix include the world championship.

It is the first instance that Dutch cyclists are allowing such a level of access.

He explained, “We felt that it was the perfect time to give a fuller picture of my person.” “As a person, and as an athlete.”

Shimano has been working with Van der Poel for the entirety of his career. The film highlights the importance that riders and equipment have in building trust.
