Granada’s provincial authority, the Diputación de Granada, has presented its first strategic plan for its fashion industry. The 2026-2030 road map aims to professionalise and structure the fashion industry under the brand Granada es Moda (Granada is Fashion), in order to consolidate its identity and position it as a creative benchmark. The plan analyses Granada’s current situation and aims transform Granada’s talent into a highly competitive and sustainable industry.
The deputy for European funds, development, industry and employment, Antonio Díaz, who was accompanied at the presentation by the writer of the plan, Maripi Robles and the president of the fashion sector in the province, María Soto, said, “We are clear that fashion is not just aesthetics or culture, it is a strategic sector capable of generating wealth and employment” in Granada. He continued to say that this plan was “the result of a listening process with the sector in order to reverse fragmentation and give it the tools necessary for Granada’s creativity to be exported to the world”.
María Soto said it “is a great opportunity for all of us who love the world of fashion and craftsmanship, as we needed to unify our efforts and for Granada to have an association that would be a point of reference for new and established designers”.
The plan also includes training in technical and business management, as well the creation of a network sectorial that encourages collaboration among professionals. It also proposes to promote fashion from Granada both nationally and internationally on catwalks, markets and other platforms in order for it to be more visible and projected abroad.
The plan also includes a clear focus on sustainability. It promotes sustainable design, and obtains environmental certifications. By 2030, the goal is to have at least 20% of companies in this sector with these accreditations. Granada es Moda is a unique brand that will be developed, along with a communication strategy designed to improve the positioning of the sector.
Fashion in Granada – figures
Fashion industry in Granada includes already designers, dressmakers and pattern makers as well as embroiderers and craftspeople.
Estimates suggest that this sector generates 60 to 80 million Euros per year for the province. It includes between 450 and 799 companies, professionals and other businesses. If auxiliary units and non-formalised manufacturing units are added, the number could exceed a 1000. Over 90% are micro-enterprises and self-employed. Youth and women play a major role, and the sector is a key part of rural life.
The province blends a unique craft tradition, such as the Alpujarra looms or the embroidery from Loja, with a creative avant garde of international projection.
A survey of 128 professionals from the industry revealed that the biggest challenge was not a lack of talent but a lack of structure and visibility. Visibility and brand promotion were ranked as the top priority by 63 percent of professionals. 82 percent of respondents deemed the creation an association that represents their interests a priority, and 90 per cent expressed interest in joining. A real need exists for business management training, digitalisation, and craft techniques.
As the first executive step of the plan, the Asociación Moda Granada constitution was signed, which will serve as an interlocutor with the authorities and a driving force for joint actions.
