Netflix prices rise again – will Spain be next to pay more?

Netflix has increased its subscription prices in the United States – and if past patterns are anything to go by, Spain could be next. The new price hike will affect all plans from the ad supported option to premium, and it will be effective from the next billing period for existing users.

Spain has yet to be officially announced. Many subscribers in the US are already asking: How long until the same increase is announced for Europe?

New Netflix prices confirmed – and they’re higher across the board

Netflix’s US support pages have already published the updated pricing structure.

The plan with ads will go from $7.99 per month to $8.99. Standard plan with no ads goes from $17.99 per month to $19.99. The Premium plan goes from $24.99 up to $26.99.

So, no reshuffle, no new options – just higher monthly costs across all tiers.

The new prices are immediately applicable to new users. Existing subscribers can expect to see them at the next renewal.

This is also the second rise in less that a year.

What Spanish subscribers are paying now

Netflix Spain currently offers three main subscription plans:

  • €6.99 for the ad-supported version
  • €13.99 for the standard plan
  • €19.99 for Premium

Prices remain the same for now.

History shows that adjustments are made in other markets after changes in the US. Not always at the same time, and not always at the same level – but rarely ignored.

It’s for this reason that the latest increase in prices is being viewed more as a warning than a single event.

Why streaming prices are increasing?

Netflix isn’t the only option.

Since 2026’s start, major platforms either increased prices or have announced plans to raise them. Spotify has already changed its subscriptions and Amazon is planning changes to Prime Video, including an ad-free version that will be more expensive.

Streaming was once positioned as an alternative to traditional television. With multiple subscriptions in the home now becoming common, the monthly costs are starting to mount.

For many users, it’s no longer about choosing one platform – it’s about deciding which ones to keep.

What it could mean to expats in Spain

Netflix is often more than entertainment for expats. They’re a way to stay connected – with language, culture and content from home.

It makes price increases more personal.

A few extra euros each month might not seem like much on its own, but when combined with rising costs in other areas – rent, groceries, utilities – it becomes part of a bigger picture.

The total amount expats spend each month can quickly increase because they use multiple platforms.

If prices do rise in Spain, some users may start reviewing their subscriptions more carefully – keeping one or two, dropping the rest.

Nothing confirmed yet – but expectations are growing

Netflix Spain and other European countries have not yet announced any price increases.

The pattern is not new.

Prices are often increased in the US first, before being extended internationally. With more than 325 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix tends to move gradually – but consistently.

Although nothing is officially confirmed, users are already getting ready for this possibility.

Spanish subscribers are able to continue their existing plans at the current price for now. If the past is an indication, this may not be for long.

And when it changes, it usually happens quietly – with the update appearing on your next bill.
