Sabinillas Carnival brings colour and music to the Costa del Sol

Last weekend, the Culture Department of Manilva City Council organised the Carnival de Sabinillas at the Plaza de Los Maestros.

San Luis de Sabinillas was filled with vibrant colours, music and costumed residents for its three-day Carnival.

Last Friday, students from the local schools performed at the opening of the festival.

The parade that took place in the town on Saturday was the most anticipated event.

The parade marched through Calle Duquesa de Arcos Saturday, March 21.

Saturday’s parade through Calle Duquesa de Arcos was the highlight of this year’s carnival.

The groups marched from La Noria to Plaza de Los Maestros.

The parade brought out a large number of people who joined in on the party by singing Spanish songs while throwing confetti.

Not only children, but also adults enjoyed the carnival. Every generation took part in the festivities – even the little ones and dogs were dressed up.

Music bands continued to play music after the parade reached the tent in Plaza de Los Maestros. Everyone was singing along.

Then it was the turn of the adult and children’s costume contests.

Sunday was all performance. On Sunday, many Chirigotas (satirical musical ensembles) were on stage.

The tent was full of laughter, music and lots of applause at every performance.

Traditional dish ‘Callos’ served for free.

The tent was open from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. On the menu was the traditional dish, ‘callos’.

This stew is a Spanish tradition made of beef tripe with chickpeas and chorizo.

It was a free, tasty lunch that locals enjoyed. For tourists, it offered a great opportunity to try something different.

The carnival lasted until 7:30pm when the tent closed its doors.

Sabinillas has a three day carnival during which a fair is held.

During the whole weekend, a fair was held. The fair was open all weekend. It offered a chance to have a snack, ride bumper cars, catch ducklings, or enjoy an attraction ride.

The parents waiting in line could also use chairs while their children played on the bouncy castles.
