One in four Spaniards haven’t had sex in the last year – how do YOU compare?

The survey, which was based on 4,009 adult interviews conducted across Spain in March, sought to determine how people today live, date, and have sex.

The total number of adults who said they hadn’t had sexual relations during the last year was 24.6%. This means that roughly one out of four adult fall into this category.

75.1% of respondents said that they were sexually active during the same time period.

These figures provide a benchmark for readers who are curious about how they compare. They show that a year without sex is not uncommon.

This study explains the reasons for this, with 16.3% citing a lack in interest or sexual desire as their main reason.

The life circumstances of the couple are a key factor. Widowhood accounts for 13.5%, and illness that affects either partner makes up 11.2%.

9.5% of respondents said they have simply not been attracted by anyone.

Relationships remain important to many people, despite the headline number. 73.5% of respondents said that a romantic relationship is essential for happiness.

Approximately 69.2% said that they were currently in a monogamous relationship.

Only 1.2% of couples described their relationship openly, but 12.9% had at least tried it.

The data also sheds light on what happens outside of traditional relationships. 7,9% said that they had experimented with dominance and submit and 6,8% mentioned specific fetishes.

While 4.7% participated in group sexual activity and 3.2% swapped partners, this shows a visible but smaller minority exploring other experiences.

The use of erotic products like lubricants or toys is not limited to couples. 58.5% have admitted using erotic products.

The most common reasons to use them were curiosity, enjoyment and satisfaction.

Most Spaniards are not interested in future trends. 80.6% said they would never have sex with a robot.

The study also shows how attitudes have changed, with 78.8% stating that today’s relationships are less stable than 50 years ago.

In the meantime, 81.6% of respondents say that they offer more personal freedom. This suggests a compromise between stability and independence.

Nearly three quarters of those who are single are not actively dating. This reinforces the notion that being single and possibly without sex can be a decision.

In terms of sexual identity, 85.7% respondents identified themselves as heterosexual.

The findings indicate that, while the majority of adults in Spain engage in sexual activity, a significant number do not. This makes the “one out of four” figure more than just an anomaly, but a point for comparison.
