The name of the international dance festival is perfect.
On April 11, the TIP TOE Soho International Dance Festival begins at the stunning new theatre, opened by Antonio Banderas six years earlier.
The Hollywood superstar has teamed with celebrated Spanish Dancer Lucia Lacarra in one of Spring’s highlights on Costa del Sol.
The Teatro del Soho CaixaBank will come alive with four of today’s leading international dance companies: the Bavarian Junior Ballet, the Lucia Lacarra Ballet, Käfig, and the Malandain Ballet Biarritz.
Five spectacular performances over nine days will bring the dance world closer to local audiences, particularly as each performance will be followed up by a post show discussion.
Les Saisons, performed by the renowned European Malandain Ballet Biarritz (attracting 100,000 spectators a year), will open this festival on April 11 and 12.

The choreography of director Thierry malandain, which features 22 classically-trained performers, will be presented in this contemporary poetic fantasia.
On April 14, the Soho Stage will host the Bavarian Junior Ballet with a program blending musical styles such as Mozart, Vivaldi Stravinsky, J.J. Cale or Pink Floyd. Even better, TIP TOE director Lucia Lacarra, will perform alongside Ivan Liška, the distinguished Bavarian lead.

Baroque music and hip hop
The groundbreaking show Folia takes place on April 16 and 17, featuring live music from the French company Käfig. It is an amazing blend of modern dance with popular, baroque or hip-hop music.

Folia is the result of this fusion, and the collaboration between Mourad-Emmanuel Comte and Franck Emmanuel Comte who directs the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu.
The prestigious LUX DUCTOR award will be presented before the performance to Argentine Julio Bocca. He is one of the most prominent figures in international dance.
Lucia Lacarra Ballet will present Fordlandia on April 18. This dreamlike neoclassical performance, featuring Lacarra and Matthew Golding, blends audiovisual arts with dance.

This work shows the distance between Lacarra and Golding due to the COVID-19 crisis.
An artistic duo – as well as a couple in real life – the pandemic kept them physically apart. She spent her lockdown in Zumaia while he was in Amsterdam.
Lost Letter, a production by Lacarra’s company, will take place on the 19th of April.
Choreographed by Matthew Golding, this moving production – featuring incredible technical skill and the impeccable performance of 10 dancers led by Lacarra – takes the audience on an emotional and visually-stunning journey.

TIP TOE’s internationality makes it a groundbreaking project in Malaga. It is an open platform that allows students from Andalucian Schools to experience dance via a variety scheduled side events.
One of the most special events will be the ‘barra de ballet’ in the Port of Malaga on April 12 at midday (registration required), where more than 500 people will dance in unison led by Lucia Lacarra.
On April 16, Julio Bocca will give a public talk about his professional career. The event will take place at 11am at La Pérgola del Mediterráneo, subject to capacity.
