Torremolinos issues swimming warning on Los Álamos beach due to nearby sewage spill

Easter is here, and while spring temperatures might tempt us to return to the beach, not all beaches have been prepared for us yet.

Torremolinos warns visitors not to swim in the easternmost part of Los Alamos Beach, near the border between Malaga City and Malaga. The local officials issued this precautionary notice after receiving information from the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health.

Sewage pipes damaged trigger a cross border alert

The Guadalhorce River swelled dramatically in December due to heavy rains. This caused several sewage pipes in Malaga, a neighbouring city, to break. These damaged lines are still being repaired. According to municipal sources, easterly storms that stir up sediments can affect water sample results and spread contamination across the municipal border.

Coordinating councils constantly

Torremolinos is in continuous contact with Malaga authorities, to monitor and track the progress of repairs. Officials stressed that a collaborative approach will ensure that both towns can respond effectively to this localised incident.

Independent water tests to be planned

Under strict Spanish law, local teams will carry out their own analyses of water quality in the affected areas. The results will be used to adjust the advice for swimming in future. Authorities have insisted that the measure is strictly preventative and puts public safety ahead of health.

Malaga closes a section of Campo de Golf Beach

Malaga Council The swimming of a portion of the Campo de Golf Beach in Arraijanal has been banned after E. coli levels were detected. Two broken sewer pipes that were damaged in the floods of December are responsible for the contamination. Regional health officials advised the closure of the facility as a safety measure until repairs were completed.

Visitor are encouraged to keep up with the latest updates

Before heading to the beach, those who want to enjoy a few days of relaxation during their holidays are advised to listen carefully for official announcements. Both councils promise to remove restrictions immediately once the water quality reaches a safe standard. This coordinated response highlights how important it is to take rapid action in the wake of extreme weather on the Costa del Sol.
