A group of armed men with balaclavas and loaded guns were stopped on their way to the Costa del Sol just hours before they are suspected of committing a revenge attack against a busy seafront.
Spanish Policía Nacional have stopped a planned ‘settling of scores’ in Fuengirola after arresting three men and seizing several firearms.
The suspects, aged between 27 and 32, were caught at a police checkpoint on the Rey de España promenade after travelling from Granada.
Officers discovered two pistols, a shotgun and a bulletproof vest. They also found balaclavas, gloves and a bulletproof vest.
A third loaded handgun was later discovered hidden near a planter, close to the police deployment zone.
In the early morning hours, officers from the Prevention and Reaction Unit conducted routine security checks in an area with a lot of nightlife.
The police became suspicious when they identified the group that had left Granada in an unknown manner.

Officers found the weapons and equipment after a thorough search of the vehicle. They immediately arrested the men.
Investigative investigations conducted by the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade showed that the suspects had traveled to Fuengirola in order to confront a person.
Authorities believe that the planned meeting could have been linked to drug-related issues and escalated into violent revenge attacks.
Three men were charged with illegal firearm possession and placed in the hands of Fuengirola’s courts.
The police have said that this intervention is part of a plan for enhancing security along the Costa del Sol to help prevent serious crime.
