Marbella hospital’s new state-of-the-art MRI scanner diagnoses heart and brain conditions faster

The new MRI scanner at Marbella Hospital is able to diagnose heart and brain problems faster

Quironsalud will be able to develop advanced protocols for cardiology and neurological conditions with the help of NEW technology.

Quironsalud Marbella Hospital’s diagnostic capabilities have been strengthened with the addition of an MRI scanner. This is a further demonstration of its commitment to providing care based upon precision, safety for patients, and clinical excellence.

These innovations ‘represent a step forward for the hospital, allowing it to tackle highly complex examinations with greater reliability, especially in two key areas: cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cardiac MRI) and advanced neuroradiology,’ explains Dr. Iván Artero, head of the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Cardiac MRI is a powerful tool with high clinical value

This technological update includes cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), a technique which has become the gold-standard for the study of multiple heart conditions.

As the specialist explains, cardiac MRI ‘provides differential information by allowing us to assess not only the anatomy but also cardiac function, a key element in certain diagnoses.’

The center can now better diagnose diseases like myocarditis and cardiomyopathies as well as heart attacks, where tissue characterization has a major role to play in risk assessment.

Advanced neuroradiology – a leap in diagnostic capability

Advanced neuroradiology is another area in which technology has made significant advances. Magnetic resonance imaging, for example, is now a standard test to study multiple neurological disorders.

“Detailed and reliable information makes it easier not only to identify but also to characterize a lesion more accurately, and to better guide the clinical strategy from the early phases”, Dr. Artero explains.

The new MRI allows the development of advanced protocols applicable to cerebral vascular disease, nerve system tumors and inflammatory and infectious processes. It can also be used for demyelinating disorders, epilepsy and cognitive disorders.

Dr. Artero says that “taken together, these improvements translate into a tangible change in clinical practice – greater confidence in diagnostics, better therapeutic advice, and an optimization of care pathways.”

Multiple specialties can enjoy benefits

Beyond neurology and cardiology, this new technology allows Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital to improve its diagnostic capabilities in a wide range of healthcare areas, especially in the musculoskeletal field, which includes joint and spinal disorders and sports injuries.

This addition will help the hospital to advance its commitment to a more precise and safer medicine based on clinical excellence.
