Costa del Sol prepares for epic St Patrick’s Day bash in Benalmadena.

Excitement is building across the Costa del Sol for the last big party of the winter that traditionally ushers in the first spring weather. A celebration that draws everyone out with some Irish blood in them, and some that only claim they do – Saint Patrick’s Day. The Irish Association of Spain in Benalmadena are preparing for the Costa del Sol’s biggest party, one of the region’s most looked-forward-to celebrations. Weather permitting, there will be a full day of Irish culture, music, and merriment on Tuesday, 17 March.

The parade marches off, starting the festivities

Crowds will gather from 11.30am at the church in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena, for a lively parade winding its way to Plaza de la Mezquita. Participants in green attire, waving flags or sporting shamrocks and Guinness merchandise, will march through the streets, setting a joyful tone for the afternoon ahead. Local businesses and bars around the plaza have already pledged support, making sure the area buzzes with energy even before the procession arrives.

Star-studded line-up of performers

Chloe Carron takes centre stage as the day’s charismatic presenter. This popular local vocalist will introduce a fantastic array of acts, including the energetic Celtic Dancers, BANDido, The Celtic Chicks featuring Mama Cath, and Totally Folk’d. Chloe herself will perform with her band later, treating audiences to solo numbers and lively sets that capture the spirit of Ireland. A special welcome awaits pupils from Bunscoil Loreto, an Irish primary school in Gorey, County Wexford, adding an authentic touch from the Emerald Isle.

Food, drink, and non-stop entertainment

Plaza de la Mezquita transforms into a vibrant festival centre of fun with stalls offering the finest Irish and Spanish fare. Punters can raise a glass to classics like Guinness, along with a tempting selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Live performances continue throughout the day, promising dancing, sing-alongs, and plenty of good craic for all ages.
