Benalmadena’s residents should be cautious about road safety. A special police campaign, which runs until 15 March, is focusing on seatbelt use and child restraints. Officers are collaborating closely with Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) to enforce these vital measures across the municipality.

Increased controls on everyday travel

During this week-long operation, the police are increasing their surveillance. All vehicles are checked, including short trips in urban areas and cars on city roads. Authorities emphasize that wearing seat belts dramatically reduces the risk of serious injury and death during crashes. Safety is a non-negotiable requirement, regardless of the distance or type of road.

Safety of children is paramount

Children need to be protected. Children must use child restraints that are properly adjusted and fitted for their age. Officers stress the importance of correct installation and consistent usage to protect children effectively. If children are not secured properly, they can be put in unnecessary danger.

Simple actions deliver powerful results

Local police echo DGT’s message on Facebook: “Buckle up. Make your journey safe. Before starting any journey, drivers should buckle up and ensure that children are properly restrained. For the police, responsibility begins even before the driver turns the key. This simple habit can be the most powerful life insurance, no matter where you are driving.

Local action is shaped by a broader DGT strategy

Benalmadena will join the DGT in its 2026 calendar, which has around 15 special missions. Recent initiatives have included checks on school transport in January and heavy vehicles in February. Numerous campaigns target key risks all year round. Authorities hope to reduce deaths and injuries by encouraging consistent adherence of basic safety rules. It is also worth mentioning that the fine for not wearing a seatbelt is EUR200. €200.

Residents are reminded that one small act of kindness can protect everyone. Benalmadena’s Police are committed to making streets safer for families, drivers and passengers.
