SPAIN is still suffering the effects Storm Regina. This storm, which has been rolling across the country for the past few weeks, brought heavy rains, thundershowers, 70km/h gusts of wind, and even the bizarre-looking mud rain that soaked cars and streets, covering them in wet brown sludge. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency or AEMET has predicted the instability to continue until Saturday, march 7, and yellow weather warnings have been issued across 11 autonomous communities.

The weather forecast for Saturday in Spain is a stormy one. There will be heavy rainstorms and dangerous sea conditions as well as snowfalls in the mountains.

AEMET warns that rain, dangerously tall waves and snow are expected to fall in the morning hours over the mountains of southeastern Spain. The altitude is between 1,100-1300 metres. In the Baetic System as well as the Southern Iberian System. Parts of the Central System. and Pyrenees mountains are also expected to receive significant snowfall. On the peaks of the mountainous areas in the country, light frost is also expected.

The agency predicts widespread rain and mostly cloudy skies in many areas, including the Cantabrian region. It also expects a few light showers to occur, as well as a lot of overcast skies. Cantabria and Tarragona will experience heavy rainfall and large accumulations.

In other parts of northeastern Spain, especially in Aragon, there is the possibility of isolated thunderstorms or heavy showers.

AEMET has forecast moderate to strong gusts in these areas

AEMET forecasts moderate gusts in the Balearic Islands and the coastal areas. Strong gusts are predicted for the Galician Atlantic Coast and the Alboran Sea. Strong gusts and even very strong gusts could be expected in the Canary Islands.

Specific rainy weather warnings are in force in:

  • The Cantabrian coastline.
  • Villaverde’s central valley and central area.
  • Burgos and Soria
  • Tarragona.
  • The La Rioja mountains range
  • Castellon.

Additional snow warnings for:

  • Granada & Jaen
  • Teruel.
  • The Picos De Europa and Cantabrian Mountains.
  • Avila.
  • Leon.
  • Segovia.
  • Albacete.

High wave warnings apply to:

  • Ibiza.
  • Formentera.
  • Tenerife.

Conditions are expected to improve through the day, even though the effects from Storm Regina may still be felt. Saturday could bring rain, wind gusts and cloudy conditions.

Temperatures for the weekend: The majority of the country will see little change

AEMET forecasts a rise in maximum temperatures this weekend for the Cantabrian area in the southwest as well as the upper Ebro Valley and northeast Catalonia.

Forecasts indicate that temperatures will decrease in the east third of the nation, as well in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula.

According to AEMET the temperature in the rest part of the country is unlikely to change significantly.
