Estepona offers tax relief to those who recycle and use “punto limpio”.

In the past, many people will remember the days when recycling in Spain, UK, and other countries was achieved by rewarding those who returned their empty soft drink bottles to the same shop where they had purchased them. The Mayor of Estepona also seems to remember those days.

Estepona Council has made a bold move to promote responsible waste management. has launched an innovative incentive Programme: Residents who regularly use their local clean point can receive a discount of 3 percent on the waste collection tax.

Original initiative reaction to a new law

The idea As the town adjusts to a new national law requiring citizens cover the full costs of waste treatment, collection and disposal, the increase is a result. Estepona Council chose to take corrective measures rather than pass on the entire increase. This will both reduce the financial burden and promote green living.

Residents who want to receive the 3 per cent tax reduction must deposit their special or bulky wastes at the municipal clean point three times a year. Mattresses, electronic and electrical appliances, X ray images, used oil, and other bulky items not collected by regular street bins are eligible. On-site proof of each deposit will be provided, and residents are required to keep the receipts.

Tax rebates can be claimed by collecting receipts.

The application for the discount is due by the end March. It can be submitted in person at the Malaga Provincial Tax Collection Board (by appointment), or electronically via the online platform. All deposits made between 2026 and 2027 will be credited to the following year’s bill.
