Mijas animal rescue centre, Animal Care España (ACE), also known as SHIN, is inviting the local community to a special Christmas Open Day to celebrate its 26th anniversary of tireless, life-saving work. The event will take place from Sunday, December 14th, between 1pm and 4pm. It highlights the centre’s unwavering commitment to saving lives as it is one of only a few shelters that refuses to euthanize healthy animals.
For 26 years, ACE-SHIN, under the dedicated leadership of Belgian national Fabienne Paques—recognised as a ‘Silent Hero‘ by King Philippe of Belgium, and her devoted team, has fought for the survival of abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats in the Mijas area. Since its foundation, the charity has rescued and rehomed tens of thousands of animals, often plucking them from ‘killing stations’ (perreras) where they face a mere 10-day limit before being put down.
Need for help and compassion in a time of crisis
Today, the situation has become more urgent than ever. The ACE SHIN facilities in La Cala de Mijas provide temporary shelter to 500 dogs and over 200 cats. They are all waiting for adoption in Europe, but most often find their forever home in another country. Mijas authorities frequently drop off abandoned pets for their protection. However, the centre is completely dependent on private donations and volunteer work to run.
The Christmas celebrations are a vital fundraiser and awareness event that allows supporters and visitors to get a closer look at the four-pawed residents. Dogs and cats who enjoy the company of people are eagerly awaiting locals to celebrate Christmas with them.
Entry is free and the donation is essential: a bag dry cat or canine food. This donation directly feeds the animals they care for, since the centre does not have room to store perishable items.
Food stalls will be available, as well as fun and games, prizes, music and mulled wine, pastries and a barbecue. Of course, there will also be mince pies.
Join us ACE-SHIN To celebrate and secure the future of their operations and to provide loving forever homes for dogs or cats who deserve a chance at a second life.
Ace-Shin was driving on the Carretera de la Cala a Entrerrios as he left La Cala de Mijas. Just before crossing under AP-7’s flyover, he crossed over.
