Marbella Council in collaboration with Marbella Canina Association will host the first ever city-wide congress dedicated to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership under the banner of “Marbella Pet Friendly”.
The free event will take place on Thursday, December 12, at 7pm at the Adolfo Suárez Congress and Exhibition Centre. Registration is required online but attendance is free.
“This is a pioneering congress in the city, aimed at educating residents about key aspects they need to know regarding their pets,” said Alejandro González, Councillor for Health and Consumer Affairs.
Three expert speakers will be featured in the programme.
- Veterinarian Ramón Fernández from Clínica Artemis will explain how to act in pet emergencies.
- Sergio Moya is the head of Marbella canina and will present “The formula to a balanced dog, and a happy owners”, focusing on techniques for training and solving behaviour problems.
- The Local Police Canine Unit officer will explain the rules of urban coexistence, including muzzles, waste collection and breeds that are potentially dangerous.
Councillor González said that the congress is only the beginning of the broader “Marbella Pet Friendly” project, which will continue with social media awareness campaigns, educational videos, and additional training sessions in the future.
The sessions are designed to provide useful, real-world information – from what to do in a critical situation to how to improve day-to-day life with our pets. The organisation encouraged participants to participate, noting the registration form has an optional section in which attendees can describe specific behaviour issues with their dog so that speakers can tailor the content and address the real concerns of the audience.
The clarification of rules governing pet care and control has been long overdue. This project has been hailed as a major step forward for coexistence in the community.
