DGT anticipates 5.7m travels over Constitution Weekend: Avoid travelling during this weekend

DGT is preparing major controls for the heavy traffic expected in Spain during the Constitution weekend.

THE SPANISH Directorate General of Traffic, or DGT, has anticipated some 5.7 million journeys to take place over the Constitution-Immaculate Conception long weekend, beginning on the afternoon of Friday, December 5. The DGT is implementing its traffic control measures to manage the heavy traffic expected as families and tourists head to the larger cities over the long weekend. Operación Salida Exit Operation: From 3pm on the 5th of December until midnight on the 8th.

Massive operation to improve traffic flow and road safety

Operation will include controls, restrictions, and additional lanes to help manage traffic in high-capacity highways as families make their way to second homes, tourist resorts, or popular cities that have Christmas traditions.

The traffic department of the Guardia Civil will work with staff from the DGT Traffic Management Centres. They include personnel in charge of equipment maintenance and installation, roadside measures and emergency services.

In order to ensure safety on all planned trips, technical resources such as fixed and mobile speed-control radars, drones and helicopters will be used.

Traffic cones and signs will be used to install additional lanes in densely populated areas. They will be reversible during rush hour traffic. Other routes will be created.

The DGT has also issued the following orders:

  • Temporary halt to all roadwork
  • The limitation of sports events and other events occupying the roads heavily or requiring road closures. puente
  • The restriction on the use of trucks for transporting goods in general as well as certain goods at specific times, dates and sections during the puente

Avoid the busiest travel times this weekend

The DGT released the projected times for the weekend’s most heavy traffic flow.

  • Friday, 5 December: Strong departure movements 4:00pm to 11:00pm
  • Saturday, 6 December: The traffic is heavy for both long distances and short distances to recreational areas. 9:00am – 3:00pm
  • Sunday, December 7, 2018 Traffic will be heavy in the areas surrounding large urban centres and on short trips to recreation and leisure areas. The morningThe return of the swan was in the Early afternoon.
  • Monday, December 8, 2018 The return traffic for the long weekend holiday will start in the Early afternoonCongested roads. This day is not a good time to travel. From 3:00pm until midnight

The DGT’s Constitution-Immaculate Conception Operation will end at midnight on Monday, December 8. There will be truck restrictions in place until the 9th of December.
