Sotogrande community raises thousands in festive fundraising

The Sotogrande community came together in impressive style over the past two weekends to support the Saint George Charity’s Christmas “Feed a Child” campaign.

Padel and party time

On Saturday November 22, a Community Charity Padel Tournament raised more than €2,300, with players and spectators enjoying a day of sport, music and community. Held at Sotogrande Racket Centre, the event included a thrilling padel tournament and after-party celebrations. The charity thanked fundraisers Jojo France and Katherine Grant who helped to make the event a success.

Christmas quiz fun

A week later, on Saturday December 29, more than one hundred people gathered for the annual Christmas Quiz at the Hairy Lemon in Sotogrande Puerto. The quiz evening has become a much‑loved fixture in the community’s festive calendar. The lively atmosphere, helped along by DJ Lee Doyle, an auction of donated prizes, and the generosity of many local businesses and individuals, raised over €10,000 for the Saint George “Feed a Child” initiative, which provides breakfast and lunch to schoolchildren via the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona.

The fundraising did not end there. As guests paused the quiz to welcome local runner Gil Peer at the quayside, completing a remarkable 53 km run to mark his 50th birthday, they heard how his challenge alone had raised €5,290, bringing the total Christmas‑season fundraising haul to just over €26,500.

Community thanks and support

The charity extends heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, from organisers and volunteers to participants and donors. As one social‑media supporter put it: “Well done guys! Amazing job as always”

Volunteers who are supporting the Feed a Child Campaign said: The Feed a Child Campaign is built on community support, and every donation, big or small, directly benefits local families. Whether you join the padel tournament, take part in the quiz, or contribute a prize, your support ensures that more children and families enjoy a joyful holiday season. And, once again the warmth and generosity of the Sotogrande community have made a positive difference this holiday season.”
