Compensation of up to €6,000 for Benalmadena businesses for roadworks

Benalmadena’s roadworks have been almost continuous for the past 2 years. They are causing traffic jams, water and power cuts, and affecting businesses on the ground floor, such as restaurants and bars.

Retamar and Juan Luis Peralta, as well as the entire Gamonal region were the most affected. While it might seem like a drop in the ocean, the businesses are about to receive some compensation – an amount up to €6,000.

The provisional list of beneficiaries for a €350,000 aid package has just been published, with 65 out of 84 applicants already approved for grants of up to €6,000 each to cover running costs hit by recent council improvement works.

The package is the first in Benalmadena and was designed to specifically help those who had kept their front doors open during street digging. The money can be spent on everyday expenses like rent, utilities and wages, providing relief immediately after months of disruption to trading.

The large number of applications (84) in just one single month shows that the Council has some real will to do this and is not simply a PR stunt in order to win over voters ahead of the next local election in 2027. Some businesses have been eligible even if they did not have diggers outside their premises, provided that they could prove that the works had an impact on footfall or deliveries.

The deadline for submitting any appeals, if you were initially denied, is now December 5, after which time the final list and payment will be confirmed.

For business owners in Benalmadena Pueblo, more good news is coming: a second identical round of funding will open shortly and be launched for businesses affected by the recent Santo Domingo area upgrades, again offering up to €6,000 per eligible company.

The official transparency portal allows business owners to check the status of their applications immediately. Check it here.

This cash injection will make a big difference in your year-end planning and finances. If your business traded through the disruption in any of the affected zones, it’s worth verifying your application status today – the money is already allocated and ready to be paid out.
