Undeterred by pouring rain and gusty winds, dozens of residents turned out on Saturday, November 15 for the “Walk for Save a Life” charity event, raising an impressive €1,180 towards installing the campaign’s third public defibrillator. The Save a Life initiative organised the event to show the community’s growing spirit and commitment to making Mijas Costa a better place for both young and old.
The walk kicked off at 10.30am from Sol Bar & Bistro in Las Terrazas Miraflores, as advertised in the lead-up to the event. Participants of all ages and backgrounds, including dog owners, families with young children, and supporters, took part in a non-strengthening route that passed through favourite local spots. The walk took participants from Bridges Bar to JJ’s Bar then El Zoco, and Pal’s Bar. The turnout, despite the bad weather, was described as “fantastic,” and organisers thanked those who braved it.
How €1,180 from Mijas Costa charity walk funds the next life-saving defibrillator
Gerry Hannam stated that the funds raised would be used to purchase and install the defibrillator in an area of Mijas Costa with a high need. The device will build on the two previously installed devices.
Local businesses played a crucial role in the success of the day. Sol Bar & Bistro, Bridges Bar, JJ’s, Top Shop, and The Terrace all contributed generous donations, boosting the total beyond expectations.
Save a Life, a campaign to save lives on the Costa del Sol, has gained momentum in recent months. This is due to an urgent need for defibrillators located at public places. The sudden cardiac arrests that occur daily are highlighted in the previous media coverage. Quickly gaining access to these lifesaving devices can increase survival rates dramatically. The first two defibrillators of this initiative have already been strategically located, and the third promises to expand that coverage even further.
